The EIC Pathfinder challenge: Towards cement and concrete as a carbon sink is a collaborative portfolio uniting 6 breakthrough projects. Modern societies are hard to imagine without cement and concrete, and they are realistically here to stay. However, mainstream technologies cause 8% of global CO2 emissions. Roughly 60% of these are chemical emissions released by converting limestone into clinker, and 40% come from burning fossil fuels at extreme temperatures. This initiative is dedicated to driving rapid, radical emission reductions across the sector.
